U.S. News Rankings Controversy
What's a magazine to do when when SAT scores, a crucial ingredient in its college ranking formula, are no longer collected or required by a college? Make them up! According to the president of Sarah Lawrence College, the school has been told that U.S. News and World Report may estimate Sarah Lawrence's average SAT scores so that the magazine can complete its college rankings. Worse yet, the magazine may make an average score estimate that's about 200 points less than that of Sarah Lawrence's peer colleges.
U.S. News claims that approach is just one of several options being considered.
