Q. Admissions Interview - Should I Travel Just to Do an Admissions Interview?
A. The short answer, at least according to every admissions officer we've spoken with, is "no." If you live in, say, Montana and are applying to Georgetown, you don't need to fly out to campus just to make an impression on the admissions committee. Admissions offices have alumni to do admissions interviews when they need them, and in any event they don't penalize students for living far away (in fact, some colleges give an advantage to students from far away and thus underrepresented states).
If it's not difficult, you should of course try to do an admissions interview on campus. At the very least, a visit to a campus will help you evaluate it and get a better sense of what you're looking for in a school. But you don't need to spend the time and expense of flying thousands of miles for a 20-minute meeting.
