A lot of attention has been paid recently to the decision by schools such as Harvard and Princeton to eliminate early admissions, effective next year.

Frequently lost in the discussion is the difference between Early Decision (Princeton's policy) and Early Action (Harvard's). Unlike Early Decision, Early Action provides little if any benefit in the admissions process.
