Subject Tests Profile - Profile of the SAT Subject Tests
What's Being Tested?: The SAT Subject Tests are offered in a number of areas, from Biology to World History to Modern Hebrew.
Test Format: Each Subject Test has its own format, although these are generally standard multiple choice exams. Some of the language tests including a listening portion.
Scoring the Test: Students are given a 200-800 score on each SAT Subject Test. There is no "overall" Subject Test score.
Choosing Which Tests to Take: Not all colleges require the SAT Subject Tests. For colleges that do require the tests, each has its own requirements or suggestions about which tests students should take. Students should check with each college to determine which tests are required for admission and which tests may allow the students to gain advanced standing in a department.
Tests Given at the Same Time as the SAT Reasoning Test: While not all Subject Tests are given on all SAT Reasoning test dates, when offered the SAT Subject Tests take place on the same date the SAT Reasoning test is administered.
The SAT Writing Subject Test Has Been Eliminated: With the addition of Writing to the SAT Reasoning Test, there is no longer an SAT Writing Subject Test.
Formerly Known as the SAT IIs: The SAT Subject Tests were previously called the SAT IIs.
