Lists of Top Colleges by Geography and Type

While the lists are maligned by many in the education industry, there is value to subjective college rankings such as those published here and in U.S. News and World Report. Rankings allow inexperienced college applicants to understand how the world at large (include graduate schools and prospective employers) tends to think about certain colleges. And while rankings are mostly estimates, and one size definitely does not fit all, colleges that consistently rank at the top of different lists probably tend to have the best programs and reputations.

We've compiled lists of colleges in various categories. These lists are by no means definitive or complete, but they should prove helpful if you're qualified for and seeking admissions at one of the nation's finest schools.
